Vicks VapoRub can harm children under 2
Vicks VaporRub has been with us for over a 100 years and many used it as a common medication for cough and cold symptoms in children. It brings reliefs and quick healings to the children and is massaged on the chest, back, neck and forehead and sometimes just swipe it under the nose. There are some adults who would put it inside their nose.
I remembered I did put it inside the nose or under the nose when I had those cold symptoms and I felt better and got some relieved. I did not read those instructions on the bottle.
Using the Vicks VapourRub on children below 2 seems like a prevalent practice among many parents over here. Many parents may not go and see the doctor for minor colds and only apply the Vicks .
The company is really clear it should never go under the nose or in the nose for anybody and it shouldn't be used in children under 2.
If it is used in that way ,the young child's tiny airways would swell and fill with mucus, triggering severe breathing problems.
I did applied it that way to my children but there were no severe breathing problems. The child felt better and able to breathe better after the application of VaporRub. VaporRub is milder than those medicated oil. Adults used those medicated oils for their colds and blocked nose.
